best vpn for torrenting
It is very dangerous to use torrents without a VPN

What is the best VPN for torrents? Do you really need to use it? Although team always encourages people to use software or other property (such as movies, music) legally, there are lots of people who use torrent clients to download wanted content or software. First of all, you have to understand that torrenting without a VPN is super dangerous and can even bring you huge fines. Second of all, if you are based in 5,9 or 14 eyes jurisdiction there is a huge possibility that your ISP collects all the data about your downloads and browsing history.

So, what to do in order not to get caught? The answer is simple: use a VPN if you download torrents. There are many providers who claim to have “no logs” policies, however, not all of them are reliable. As we already reviewed all popular VPN providers, we’re going to give you our unbiased opinion on which VPN is the best for torrenting. By the way, you can check our recommended torrent sites right here.

Before giving our VPN review, here are the main criteria that we relied on to rank VPN providers:

– Logging policies
– Download speeds
– Download bandwidth limits (if there are any).

Below you will find the list of our TOP5 recommended VPN providers to use with torrents. Keep in mind that rankings are based on our research and tests.

#1 Surfshark – best VPN for torrents

surfshar best vpn for torrents
Surfshark is a cheap but reliable option

Surfshark, as well as NordVPN or ExpressVPN, have complete no-log policies. It means that you can torrent without thinking of being caught. Being based in The British Virgin Islands, they do not fall under 5-9-14 eyes jurisdiction. Surfshark variety of servers and countries (800 servers in 50 countries) is a little bit poor at the moment, but it does not impact speeds or connection reliability. The application has a really nice interface and is fully accessible even to beginners.

Surfshark is working on every popular device and OS: Windows, macOS, Android, Linux and, of course, Android TV. That could allow you to use different TV addons besides torrenting.

Surfshark is really a premium service with very affordable pricing. You can get a great VPN for torrenting with a price of 1.99 USD per month. How crazy is that? Being cheaper than the biggest players such as NordVPN or ExpressVPN, it does not yield with any features. Great customer support, nice speeds and decent service which allows you to enjoy all the content you want.

#2 NordVPN – a good and affordable option for torrenting

nordvpn best vpn for torrents
NordVPN is our #1 option for torrenting

As NordVPN received a number one spot on our overall ranking, it is our to-go option for torrenting as well. With a huge variety of different servers around the world, it is a nice option for fast download speeds and military-grade encryption.

NordVPN service is available on all operating systems and devices: you can use it with Windows (from Windows 7 and up),macOS, Linux as well as Android for mobile. While connected to NordVPN, you can use Double VPN or Onion over VPN features. Onion over VPN gives you all the advantages of The Onion Router combined with the extra security of a VPN tunnel. Double VPN simply means that your internet connection history goes through two different servers. That gives you extremely good encryption but at the same time, your connection speed might drop two times or even more.

NordVPN was our number one choice for torrenting also because it has a complete no-log policy and does not have any bandwidth limits. They also have a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can basically try the service without any risk. Their pricing starts from $3.49 and we do believe that the price is totally worth the service.

#3 ExpressVPN – expensive option for torrenting

expressvpn torrenting
ExpressVPN is a great, but expensive option for torrenting

ExpressVPN does allow torrenting and offers users complete privacy. On top of that, ExpressVPN has a huge variety of US servers (94 different locations Worldwide) so you will be able to see any library you prefer.

The provider also guarantees a no-log policy for all browsing and download activities, as it is based in the British Virgin Islands. In our opinion, it is one of the best VPNs currently available in the market and it is working with all major operating systems – macOS, Windows, Android, Linux.

It is also worth to mention that ExpressVPN is currently the fastest VPN in the market. That will allow you to stream and enjoy any content without lag or buffering, which is super important when you pay such price (starting $6.67/mo).

#4 Cyberghost – needs to improve connection speeds

cyberghost torrenting
Cyberghost has decent service, but it needs to improve the speeds

Cyberghost is a really nice and affordable service, however, it did not reach our TOP3 ranking in our best VPN for the torrenting category. CyberGhost is based in Romania which does not belong to 14-Eyes Alliance. Because of their location, they ensure a strict no-logging policy. That means that no data about your browsing activity is being kept in their storage and you should feel completely safe.

Cyberghost VPN offers a wide range of servers (more than 4000 to be exact) in 60 countries. Cyberghost also has desktop apps for Windows, macOS, Linux. Mobile apps for iOs and Android. It is also worth to mention that Cyberghost is compatible with various kinds of smart TV’s – that will allow you to enjoy such services as Kodi and others.

To conclude, Cyberghost is a good torrenting orientated VPN provider with 0 logs policy. Big variety of client apps, server locations is truly an advantage, however, Cyberghost really needs to improve its downloading speeds.

Cyberghost pricing is affordable to almost everyone – their best value plan is $99 for 3 years ($2.75/mo). Their 2-year subscription can be purchased for $88.56 ($3.69/mo) and 1Y plan is available for $71.88 ($5.99/mo).

#5 Hotspot Shield – good speeds but unclear

Screen Shot 2019 09 26 at 19.12.06

Hotspot Shield VPN product family is one of those companies that do not hide their identities like NordVPN or ExpressVPN. Most of the team is in the US but there is also a tech team in Ukraine.

Hotspot Shield VPN is available for Windows, Android, Mac, and iOS. Furthermore, this VPN also has a Chrome browser extension yet we would not recommend it since there is a slight chance of DNS leaking.

If you are an advanced user and would like to set-up Hotspot Shield on devices such as Linux, routers or SmartTV – it’s not possible since there are no manual install guides.

HotSpot Shield is a good option if you don’t torrent a lot. We were really impressed by their fast servers, who don’t have any bandwidth limits.

HotSpot Shield is also an affordable option if you are looking for a VPN to download torrents of even watch Netflix. Their most affordable and the cheapest plan is $107.64 (2.99 USD) for 3 years.
